Pipefitter
Pipefitters fabricate and install the piping systems that will carry the ship’s liquids and gases at various pressures. Pipefitters use measurement, fit-up bending and installation skills.
Transferable experience: Warehouse/ Construction/ forklift
Outside Electrician
Outside Electricians fabricate and install wire-way hangers, stud shooting, install bulkhead stuffing tubes and various sizes and types of cables (though and local) for lighting, communications, control, power, electronics, nuclear and weapons systems.
Transferable experience: Electrical/Electronics/basic electrical knowledge.
Shipfitter
A Shipfitter is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Will assemble and install foundations, structures, bulkheads, frame components and deck packages.
Transferable experience: Manufacturing / Construction / Carpentry
Welder
Welders are required to weld structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation sequence of submarine construction. Welding at Electric Boat is performed on a wide variety of materials, using an ever-growing number of welding processes.
Transferable experience: Manufacturing / Construction
Sheetmetal
A Sheetmetal worker is required to interpret construction drawings with basic mathematic ability. Work assignments will be accomplished using company drawings, test documents, technical manuals, shipyard procedures and shop machinery.
Transferable experience: Manufacturing / Construction / Automotive / HVAC / Autobody
Painter and Sound Dampener
Sound dampeners responsibilities include installing all types of sound dampening materials including but not limited to stud shooting, gluing, and placing tiles, gluing anti-sweat and gluing hardboard.
Painters preserve the hull and components by sealing the submarine with chemicals and paints that prevent corrosion and protect against the accumulation of marine life.
Transferable experience: Carpentry / Installation / Autobody / Carpentry / Manufacturing
